About Spices
of the World
Spices of the World
was really was really far-fetched in development. It began as an untitled
pic club not even started by myself. However Devon, the former President,
a true die-hard Spice fan invited me to join after my complaint that people
were only interested in trading pics instead of just giving them away. After
a few weeks of service, Devon had to go on vacation and instead of just having
her cancel the club until she returned...I being my normal larger-than-life
self said I'd take over in her absence. However, I had a few strikes against
me. # 1 being my computer, I even had to send people links to pictures because
my computer was too old to send even the smallest pics. So the generous person
would upload and then forward it to me, where upon I would forward the e-mail
with the pic attached to the entire club. In short, it was mad chaos...however
there was always loyal people around to help with sending pictures and we
never ran out of stock...we came close though.
This picture club didn't even have a name and it was
strictly a pic club and from talking with some of the members I felt awful
because some of them were so uninformed about the latest Spice news...even
when stations like MTV and Vh1 actually considered them artists and talked
about them non-stop. So I decided to add some news to it and give it a
title...SPICES OF THE WORLD stemming from the fact that The World of Spice
was taken. I even called Virgin Customer Information and asked for permission
to have an official online club...they gave it their ok as long as I didn't
claim to be the Spice Girls or sold any of their likeness for a profit, whether
they took me seriously or not, I still added "Official Spice Girls" fan club
to the newsletter's title. Being limited with a slow computer, I was only
able to add each section of the newsletter slowly...normally only 1 or 2
stories at a time. So the reason for the black background was that I was
so embarrassed of people seeing how I had to forward each half of the page
to myself. But the worst part is that with forwards, the last piece you forward
ends up on the top. So I would have to start from the end of the newsletter
and forward the entire or first half of the last section and work my way
up. I guarantee that the first edition of the newsletter, which was lost
when my computer got the cherynbol virus, was backwards...but no one seemed
to notice (or were too polite about it to mention it). At one time, we even
had over a 100 members, which again is nothing BIG at all, but when you've
only had AOL for two months, you believe its the coolest thing on earth.
A whole lot of work was put into the new aptly titled
"§PICES OF THE WORLD" and I was even able to get some people involved
being Vice-President (Moun89@aol.com) and even a website technician (Devon
who was originally responsible for the club). However, when your computer
doesn't even allow you to check out websites before crashing, you're almost
certain to fail. I was only able to complete a crude tour agenda page and
lyric section for Spice and Spiceworld. So eventually I had to work with
what I had and gave up on my dream of one day having a website. However with
the reinvention of getting a trial computer sparked something in my old computer
(or I deleted have the junk I used to have and got a faster connection 26.4
instead of 14.4) so I was able to use AOL 4.0 and slowly but surely gain
momentum for the 3rd series of it. But once again, I was confronted with
difficulties when I only had twenty members to work with.
They all seemed to enjoy the newsletter and I got a
kick out of it...but a problem with it was that I could only supply AOL members
with a full picture attachment edition...so I began work (well had my friend,
G, work) on starting a website...which would feature the newsletter in a
format everyone could enjoy...although its still being worked on...I plan
on still sending out the newsletter in e-mail universally with the pictures
attached so you can still enjoy it.
Now while a lot of people are probably thinking so
far "crap site," to me its the definite start of something. I will be focusing
a lot more attention to my newsletter upon its arrival and I'll still make
updates for the site. To me the main purpose of a site is for new multimedia
(pics/audio/video), I leave the news for my newsletter, but I will be updating
the news regularly for the site. So if you want regular news please subscribe
to the newsletter by contacting me on the front page, but if you're waiting
for that multimedia it'll be up shortly...Lyrics as well. I have to take
things slowly and I know it might be a while, but I want to put my all into
something I can be proud of and hopefully you all can get some enjoyment
from.
I hope to have the page fully completed by early next
year...but I'm expecting to have a multimedia section open in a few weeks,
sometime followed by lyrics. As for news, I'd start looking for it soon,
that's a section that I think needs the most attention right now. So please
bare with me...I know its slow...but it'll be worth the wait. . .
